Fetal ultrasound

Fetal Ultrasonography

A fetal ultrasound, also known as obstetric ultrasound, is a non-invasive diagnostic
imaging technique that uses high-frequency sound waves to create images of a
developing fetus in the mother's uterus. Fetal ultrasound can be used to teach
students and healthcare professionals about fetal development and anatomy. It can
also be used to demonstrate how fetal ultrasound technology works and how to
interpret the images produced. The procedure involves applying a special gel to the
mother's abdomen and using a device called a transducer to send sound waves into
the body. These sound waves bounce back off the developing fetus and are
converted into images that can be viewed on a screen. Fetal ultrasound can
provide valuable information about the size, position, and health of the developing
fetus. It can also be used to detect any abnormalities or potential health issues.
Ultrasound can be performed at different stages of pregnancy, including the first
trimester, second trimester, and third trimester.
There are different types of fetal ultrasound, including a standard ultrasound, 3D
ultrasound, and 4D ultrasound. A standard ultrasound produces two-dimensional
images of the fetus, while a 3D ultrasound creates a three-dimensional image, and
a 4D ultrasound adds the element of time, creating a live video of the fetus. Fetal
ultrasound is considered safe for both the mother and the developing fetus. It is
commonly used by obstetricians and gynecologists as a routine part of prenatal
care to monitor fetal growth and development and identify any potential
complications
